work experience day 1

16/11/09

Monday

LOL. i was exhausted when i came home.

- - - - -

this morning, i went normal time,
had to buy a weekly ticket to kogarah
since it was cheaper than buying it everyday.
and even cheaper than buying it everyday for 5 days.
so it was the weekly pass. ^^

had to catch the train to wolli creek then change to kogarah.
and it was so hot today. ):
walked all the way to st. george hospital from the station,
and i thought i was going in the wrong direction,
when i saw the hospital~ :D my saviour.

can't belive how big the hospital is. oh noes.
found the human resources department at least.
then waited for all the other work experience students to come.
doot doot.
then the lady led us to the different departments.
i went to radiology
you know, where all the uber advanced technology for imaging is.

went to see the x-ray machines, as well as the screening ones,
and the CT ones. so awesomely advanced.
in screening, they told a patient to drink liquid Barium,
i just cringe thinking about it.
it's like a liquid metal. bleurgh.
all day, i saw patients coming in and out,
some things i saw were pretty sad and disturbing.

i spent most of the day in the x-ray rooms,
you know, observing the equipment and methods they use,
all day, i've been standing around, so tiring~ DD=
and all day, i've been seeing ultra sick patients coming in for x-rays,
and all day, i've been seeing x-ray images taken.
^^ saw a pacemaker in one patient,
artificial hips, and nail thingies in another.

well, i spent one hour in the screening room doing nothing.
how productive.
though, when a patient did come,
the machine they used was really cool,
and you can see the perosn in motion,
as in you can see inside them, and that was in motion.

learnt some of the jargon they use,
like AP, PA, laterals. how awesome.
and they are soooo hygienic.
well, what do you expect?
it's a hospital. they use those anti-bacterial thingies,
i tried once, it feels cool.

my lunch was at 1.00pm - 2.00pm.
pretty awesome.
so i walked to kogarah station, as there were many shops there. ^^
ended up buying bread and juice and chocolate.
hehehe... i was starving.
remind me to eat a big breakfast from now on.
XDDD

it wasss soooo hot outside too.
inside it was cool, so that was all good.
at 2pm, they were having a meeting in the conference room,
which i had to attend as well.
well, i was dozing to sleep,
i really wasn't trying to,
but sitting there was so comfortable~ ^^

i did come back to life afterwards,
when my supervisor, was giving a talk on foreign bodies.
she showed us all pictures of what could be stuck in these people's bodies.
and she showed us a gruesome picture
of a man who had a wooden pole stuck right through his pelvic bone,
and we could see it coming out the otherside.
howww.... sad.

and then she showed us x-rays of all kind of strange situations.
it was kinda interesting, so i was more alert than before.
there were images like;
a child has a coin stuck up his nose,
another had a coin in his stomach,
one had scissors in the stomach,
one had dentures down in the throat,
there were needles, and bones,
one had a fish hook,
the most amazing one, was a person who had a whole set of cutlery in their stomach;
like 10 knives, 10 forks, and 10 spoons. the horror. it's called the pica syndrome apparently.
:DDD that's really bad.

and so it was 3.30pm.
went to look at more x-rays being done.
~sigh~
and then! it was 4.30pm!!
yippee.
go home time!
and they stole my pen. ): well no.
HAHAHAHA

got on the train, and went home.
and it was soooo hot.
by the way, where can you get cheap mascara??
^^ hahahaha....

yosha.... doing maths tutoring,
and i don't get how you graph absolute value graphs.
DDDD= what the hell?!?!
remind me to activate my key card.

doom doom.
ah ah.... don't get to see friends for one week.
how boringgg....
oh well. hee hee. XD
i'm tireeed.

cyaaaaaaa
