work experience day 2

17/11/09

Tuesday

today i woke up kinda late and so i kinda rushed to the station.
hohoho~
and got kinda lost in the hospital,
and thus had to resort to going back to the human resources department to ask for directions.
^^

so.... today i was in paediatrics
pretty exciting.
had a meeting firstly,
where they talked about speech and social difficulties in children.
like autism.

then i waited around the children's ward,
where i met tracy, jasmine and angela. cool eh?
since the main supervisor was busy for most of the day,
another doctor took me around everywhere.

she showed me a year 10 boy,
who had breathing difficulties, and his lung was deflating,
and so they had to stick a tube into his ribs,
examined his body, and saw where they stuck the tubes,
it looks kinda painful. ):
poor boy. but he's getting better~ ^^

well, most of the time in the morning,
i just stood around doing nothing,
since the department wasn't very busy today. ~sigh~
the supervisor gave me chocolate~ -clap clap- XDD
and had a morning break. ^^

then we went on rounds.
checking all the babies under special care? yeah.
saw babies with jaundice,
one had down syndrome,
another had a cleft lip and palate, very intereting outer appearance i must say.

these babies were tinyyy....
and sooooo cute!~ *-*
the doctor explained each case to me for the several babies,
as they all had special cases. ^^

then at 12.30pm it was time for lunch.
yoohoo. went down to kogarah station,
and bought sushi, and hot chocolate.
awesome~ waste money.
ohohohooho!

and so, at 1.30pm,
i went back to the hospital quite unwillingly,
i wanted to stay in the sunshine a little more.
the weather was colder than yesterday. ^-^

hmm....
then i stayed in the general room area,
where all the mother's had their newborn children.
how loving.
there really wasn't anything for me to do. ~_~
and so.
they started checking on the babies who were getting released.
and i listened to one's heartbeat through the stethoscope or something like that.
and it's head was sooooo soft.
and of course, it's body was tiny. xDD

as the doctor had to go to a cesarean,
and so i was left alone with a tiny tiny baby.
it started to cry,
and so i held him in my arms,
and rocked and hummed.
AWWW.... what a cute baby!
so soft and miniature.
how amazing.

~sigh sigh~
then came a period of doing absolutely nothing,
except sit and stare into empty space,
until, a woman told me to go watch a baby take a bath.
how interesting...
and they cry a lot too. ^^
then.... it was like 4.15pm...
the doctor then took me to theatre,
where all the surgeries happen.

over there,
i had to change clothes,
into the clean blue ones, and had to wear a rainbow hair net.
she was going to take me to see a cesarean,
but unfortunately,
since it was the patient's first baby,
she didn't want a work experience person there,
so i couldn't watch. nooooo~
although i went into the rooms,
and saw like perfectly sterilised instruments.
and couldn't even scrape past it.
cause you know, those are for reaching into the woman's body and stuff.
obviously.

~sigh~
sooooo disappointing.
so i went home at like 5.00pm
half an hour over time. yoohoo~
went on the train, missed wolli creek for some random reason,
but then it was all good, all the way to revesby,
-ching ching-

arrived home after 6pm.
bums.
had a delicious dinner~
and read manga.
what a wonderful day.
XDDD

i shall go shower.
and sleep.
and do nothing.
jyaanaaaa~
